Dhaba in India is the most traditional eating place or a roadside cafe famous with the truckies who drive all night and long distances delivering goods from one city to another, but over the years it has become popular to all walks of life. Cooking is done in earthern pots and on earthern ovens. Our chefs at Punjabi Dhaba, have tried to present the most traditional and authentic food prepared with the combination of earthern cookware to the most modern facilities of the modern world. We have gone to the ports of Goa for genuine curries. We have also crossed the borders to present some Chinese dishes with the bite and spice of India. Some very royal dishes enjoyed by the Moghul kings, also enhance the glamour of our menu, in an ambience and hospitality evocative of the golden times, when every meal was a feast, and every feast, a gourmet delight.

The universal popularity of curry is the delicious proof of east conquering west, on the culinary level. It is a wrong notion that Indian food is “hot”. All the spices and herbs used are not just for flavour and aroma, but for their digestive and nutritional values. Chillies are rich in Vitamin C, Methi (fenugreek) peps up the liver, ginger and peppercorn aid digestion. Mint is cooling, while coriander is good for kidneys.

“Good wholesome food and good health go hand in hand”. At Punjabi Dhaba, we use only the finest ingredients to prepare all dishes that are as nutritious as they are delicious. So sit back and relax and try whatever appeals to you today but you have to come back to try another section of our menu.

We would like to thank our respected father Mr Rajinder Singh Ankhi, starter of Punjabi Dhaba tradition in New Zealand. We will strive to keep up the tradition and expectations. Hardeep and Sonia give their personal guarantee that all our guests and patrons will go satisfied and get the best value for their money.

My partner and I decided to try Punjabi Dhaba after scoping their menu one day. The food was pretty good My partner and I ordered the Butter Chicken. I stuck to the mild version, but my partner chose hot. You definitely get what you ask for, three bites in he was sweating like mad, but he wasn’t going to let that ruin his meal! We had the Tiramisu Ice Cream for dessert which was a nice way to finish. Would probably return again if we were in the area.

Went there a fair amount of time ago with my family and a family friend who's Indian. When I first arrived there, we were seated and we ordered butter chicken, rice and naan bread and some other stuff. The service was great although we had to wait a while, but the food came anyway. Everything was great although we did not get any water. Also, when we saw the bill, it was incorrect but it was corrected once we told the person in the counter. I really thoroughly enjoyed the food though.

Punjabi Dhaba, as they say explained that in india the roadside restaurants, which serve food to long distance travelers specially truckers are known as DHABAz.
But it was far better than some cheap indian restaurant. The environment and interiors realy need appreciation, But they need to concentrate more on food. It was just like an average indian restaurant.
You can do better punjabi dhaba,,

Quite liked it. Food was yumm. Staff was professional. Clean and hygenic. Loved the experience. I dont know what are people complaining about the staff and owner's attitude. They were polite as ever, all smiling, professional, and the food is the closest authentic Indian and I can find in Auckland. Great alcohol list! Go for it. I dont see any reason not to. Check your bill though at the end. We were being overcharged inadvertantly. When I pointed it out, the bill was immediately corrected. Overall a very cozy casual atmosphere to immerse into.

My friends and I visited the restaurant on a Saturday evening without a reservation.Agree was our fault. Luckly there was some place to accomodate us (group of 6).But looks like the manager or the owner at the counter was not happy enough to give us that place. The food was lovely but no one really cared to take our mains order and we had to go to the counter to order it. After our lovely meal we went to the counter to pay our bill but we got snapped by the manager or the owner standing behind the counter. He very rudely informed us that we should have reserved a table before we visited the restaurant and also gave a piece of advise on our dressing code.We quietly walked away without making any scene. Being from a service industry I believe that every guest should be treated with respect and not insulted when they all come in a mood to enjoy. I think there are better Indian restaurants to visit in Auckland then this one (where a guest is not treated with respect).
